Working with children and supporting them is especially close to Rike´s heart.
2013 she realized the photo project “I Can Show You” for the IFB Institute for Photographic Education Berlin in India as a project manager and lecturer. With support from Freelens Foundation and Olympus Europe and in cooperation with the Children‘s Fund Global Care she and her colleague Reza Nadji worked for 8 weeks with children and young people in India and enabled them to express themselves through the medium of photography for the first time.
In summer 2014 she worked for the after-flood-project “Spuren im Land” of Neugierig e.V. and „Aktion Deutschland Hilft” in Saxony-Anhalt. The project served the psychosocial treatment after the flood in 2013 in the district of Stendal. As a lecturer, she offered young people the opportunity to deal with the topic of flooding in a photo workshop and to reflect and process their experiences photographically.
Since 2019 she is a member of Initiative Nepal e.V. and is involved in voluntary work to generate donations for the ongoing support of the local project partner Child Welfare Organization Nepal CWON. In March 2019 she documented a BMZ funded project in Nepal for develop drinking water sources, as well as workshops for the promotion and further education of the local population. Furthermore she accompanied children as a teacher in a school founded by the CWON in Padampur, southern Nepal, a former refugee camp.
She is happy to have the opportunity to use the medium of photography at Turning Tables as a process of self-reflective interaction for young people.
